Why I became a lawyer
I became a lawyer to help protect individual rights.
The opportunity to use my legal skills and financial resources to champion the underdog is what has motivated me during the 30+ years I’ve been practicing law.
The legal system is a place where individuals can still triumph over the powerful. This is why I have never represented insurance companies, corporations, or the government.
An example of how I can be your advocate and guide
I am continually advocating for my clients and connecting them with the best doctors and practitioners to aid in the healing process and move cases forward.
Recently, I represented a woman injured in an auto accident. Her primary doctor was not supportive. So, I retained an orthopedic doctor to review her case. Even with that review, the insurance carrier offered her a small, unsatisfactory sum, so I filed a lawsuit. This had the desired effect. With my work, the case settled for the maximum amount possible under her policy within a short time after our lawsuit commenced.
Saving time, money, and reducing your emotional toll by settling
In addition to my numerous successes in court, in the right circumstance, resolving cases prior to filing a lawsuit may be the best avenue. With this approach, I can save thousands of dollars in court costs, your time, and mine. I pass these savings on by offering reduced fees in cases that settle prior to filing suit.
Expect patience and understanding from me
I am patient and understanding and I will guide you through the legal process in a thoughtful way. This has been the secret to my success since I first became interested in the law in college where I worked for a legal clinic helping my fellow students.
What’s unique about my approach
When I give you my opinion about the value of your case, it’s based on having resolved 10,000+ cases over the past 30 years. I will be objective and not inflate or exaggerate what you should expect from your case. I am a “straight shooter” and know from experience when the offer you receive is fair and when to fight, and fight hard.
My backstory
Before opening my own law firm in Auburn in 1994, I held a prestigious law clerk position for the United States District Court, Eastern District of California. I then continued my work for judges with the Sacramento County Superior Court. I began private practice representing victims in injury accidents in 1987 with attorneys Morton Friedman and John Poswall in Sacramento. I have continuously dedicated my legal career to representing people in personal injury accident cases since 1987. I also represent clients facing criminal charges through the criminal defense law firm, Cohen Defense Group, in Roseville and Auburn, CA.
The law has been my passion and my life for over 30 years and I have been in the same location in old town Auburn for over 25 years. Knowing the local system means faster resolutions.
Recognition
I have been recognized in the Roseville, Auburn, and Sacramento regions, both formally and informally. A good portion of my business is through referrals from other lawyers or previous clients, based on my record of success.
I have also been recognized by my peers both as a SuperLawyer, for the past 8 years straight, and in Sacramento Magazine (2020 and 2021) as a Top Lawyer.
You can read my reviews here to see what past clients have to say about their experience working with me.
A little bit more about me
When I’m not helping people with their legal problems, my interests include playing classical guitar and competitive golf. I follow all professional sports and I enjoy live theater and music of all kinds.
